Down by the river

Riverside steps, originally uploaded by Paul Sidle.

Early sunday morning I cycled to Kew to take some pictures by the riverbank. The morning sun was dancing off the water and through the foliage to catch the wet moss, mud and lichen on these steps. I might try and put together 4 images from that morning to send in to Black & White Photography’s annual competition as a portfolio entry (in addition to some individual prints). This image was converted into black and white, playing around with the settings until happy, curves adjusted and then I applied a slight tone to try and show the warmth of the sun.
Next time I’ll plan ahead a bit better perhaps, as I meant to be on the other side of the river! Nevertheless, it was a good exercise in looking and making the best of what was around me, so in that respect it was a good challenge and learning experience.
